when jokes are no longer funny

Not all jokes are funny.
There are things that may seem funny to some but may be offensive or painful to others. There are some jokes that may gain the heartiest of laughter from those who hear but there are also those that may rouse slumbering tears.

That is why, we have to be sensitive when we make jokes. That is why, we have to consider before we make fun of others. That is why, we need to get to know what could offend others first before we start making fun of topics.

I personally think that really sensitive topics (i.e sexual preference, gender) should not be made subject of jokes at all. These topics are, by nature, too sensitive even for serious discussions much more jokes.

Making fun of a person's gender preference is insensitive. Some of them who are in such situations are confused and hurt that they are not easily accepted and mocked by a lot of people and making fun of them could hurt them more. Its alright to joke but we have to learn to limit ourselves; we have to learn when to stop.

There are people who are already insecure with their appearance, their social status, their bodies, etc. And making fun of them could sometimes push them to depression. Again, jokes are alright but embarrassing them is not.

Learn when to stop and stop when you know that you are already going beyond the limit. Be sensitive. There is nothing wrong with a good clean joke; there is nothing wrong if you want to laugh with your friends. But there is something wrong with getting your laughter at the expense of other people's feelings.

Not all jokes are funny. Sometimes, it could also make us cry.
