Officially Enrolled

Yes! After 10, 000 years!
It really feels good to be officially enrolled after the grueling days we all had as we try to finish our enrollment. It feels so good to relax after days of endless queuing.

This day started really early for me as I forced myself to wake up really early so i could line up at the accounting office earlier. It was good that I managed to finish really early and was able to secure the Dean's signature as early as 9am. Of course I would have finish my enrollment earlier if only I stayed up in line this morning. Instead i opted to secure my control number in the afternoon and started lining up as early as 12pm. I did not have lunch of course.

Thank God, I had my subjects encoded as early as 3:30 when I was actually expecting to stand in line until 5pm or even beyond. Such is the number of students in our university. Just imagine this, my number is already 17, 380 and there are still more students lining up for their control number and even more still halfway in the enrollment process. huh! This university is really over populated...

Enrollment blues: again!

There it is again, the queuing for endless fees we have to pay so we could get quality education.

Seemingly endless lines of students lining up, patiently [or in some cases, impatiently] waiting for their turns, mixture of smells and voices are just some of the scene endlessly repeating every enrollment period. Moods change as fast as the weather, tempers rise as fast as the room temperature and body odors mixing as hundreds of bodies press each other waiting and waiting in the long queues.

If history indeed repeats itself, then enrollment in NORSU is the best example of it. Every semester same scenes repeat again and again like a bad movie on rerun. Nobody likes it of course but Nobody has a choice because Somebody decided that everyone should be suffocated by the odors of their schoolmates before enjoying a quality education.

If examination week is hell week, then enrollment week is worst. Just imagine something worst than hell and you'll get what I mean.

Just try picturing this out, you spend the whole day falling in line despite the humidity, the heat, the hunger, and the imminent future of varicose veins. At least we don't miss lunch and snacks on examination weeks and we are not forced to stand on hours waiting for a miracle that the person in front of us will move before the Dean, the cashier, or the accounting office would say, "Close na."

Enrollments are no fun, really. And whoever says its otherwise should have their sense of humor tested.

Enrollment na?

Its either time flies so fast or we really did not have a semestral break.
We just had our final exams the other week and now its enrollment time again. Duh! can we have a rest first?

This is the first Sem break that I was not able to go home. In fact, since last year the longest time I ever spent at home was probably 2 weeks and that was when I got sick last February.

Frankly speaking, despite the dread of going home, I really want to home for good.I want to go home and never come back. I want to go home and leave this place for good.

This place is a reminder of everything tiring, of every failure, every pressure, of every thing!!!!

And I am suppose to write something about enrollment!Duh!

A Voiceless SG

When the Dress Code policy was implemented on June 16 of this school year, it confused and caused inconvenience to a lot of students who were halted by the guards at the gate area. There had been no clear guideline as to what clothes are admissible in campus and what are not. Students has since then complained about its unclear guidelines and the way it was implemented.

In an attempt to answer the queries of the students, The NORSUnian took the initiative of interviewing the university President regarding the issue. In the said interview, the university president said that there had been no agreed guidelines yet as to the exact standard of dressing because it is the student government who would be formulating it. Dr. Henry A. Sojor explained that it is the Student Government who will make the memo and he will only approve it.

It has been a month now since the policy was implemented and weeks since the statement of the university president was released in the student publication yet the confusion continues. For more than a month that this confusion existed, there had been no move from the student government, not even a simple clarification for the student by the people they voted to represent them.

Though the SG did prepare a guideline and currently on the process of securing the signatures of respective university heads, as confirmed by the Student Government of Dumaguete City I (SGDCI) president herself, it is still questionable why their move came in late already. This move should have been done by the SG the moment the confusion arises. There is no need for them to wait for the university president to suggest that they do something about the matter because it is the students’ welfare that is the issue here.

Matters that concern the students should always concern the SG because, like the student publication, they exist for the students. They do not need to wait to be hit first before they make a move and do something about issues that should have been addressed a long time ago.

It is worth reminding that the student government was created to represent the student body and would, supposedly, serve as the voice of the students. However, for the past years now, it is quite evident that the SG is not living up to what is expected of them. The role of the SG is not only limited to providing projects and organizing programs because, in the first place, they were elected to become leaders and not event organizers.

Supposedly, the SG serves as mediator between the administration and the students. It is their responsibility to voice the students’ complaints and such to the administration. The SG has the responsibility to champion the cause of the students and to, at least, clarify issues such as this dress code policy which caused a lot of confusion to the students ever since it was implemented.

The officers of the Student Government should, at least, give justice to the votes cast by students as it symbolizes the trust that they are giving the leaders that they expect to stand up for them.

The Student Government had been silent for so long now and it is high time that they wake up and face the very reason why the students placed them in their positions. The student government is the voice of the students, but this voice is still yet to be heard.
